The idea of creating a journal for Traditional Tibetan Medicine (TTM) came from Dr. Nida Chenagtsang in 2006. I remember we were sitting outside during one of the breaks in our Tibetan medicine studies in Italy, enjoying the sun and nature, when Dr. Nida spoke about the future of Sowa Rigpa. Sowa Rigpa is the original name for Traditional Tibetan Medicine, which literally means “Science of Healing.” This science is universal and applicable anywhere on Earth, thanks to the deep knowledge of nature’s principles. Dr. Nida shared his vision of making it available in the West, where it could surely bring an immense benefit by bringing back the balance of body, energy, and mind.
The thought of creating a publication that could be useful for many, both patients and therapists, was very appealing to me. Together with my colleague Dr. Maria Locsei, we started working on the first edition of the TTM Journal and in 2007, it was published! Since then we have published six editions of TTM Journals, each focusing on different themes.
Year 2017 was a phenomenally transformational time for the Journal. Along with the registration of the foundation Sorig Khang International (SKI) replacing the IATTM, our publication was reborn as “Sowa Rigpa Journal.” Ordering the journals online was made much easier with the creation of the Sowa Rigpa Journal website. In addition, by converting historical issues of the journals digitally into E-book format, it is now possible to access the journals though Amazon and other media.
To commemorate 10 years of TTM Journal, we bring to you this unique publication with a selection of the best articles! Having outstanding articles on herbs, external therapies, and many feature articles in one place make this book a good companion at work and at your leisure. We also added an extra gift on top – an insightful interview with Dr. Nida from Russia that has never been published before.
I would like to show my deep gratitude to Dr. Nida, our guiding light in the world of Sowa Rigpa; to Padma company, who has sponsored the print of several editions of the Journal, and to many wonderful people who contributed to the creation of TTM Journals over all these years!
